Director of Transportation (Full-Time Contracted Position)

The Burgettstown Area School District is accepting applications for a full-time Director of Transportation. This contracted administrative position provides leadership and oversight for the daily operation of a safe, efficient, and DOT compliant transportation program that supports the district’s educational mission.

About the District:
The Burgettstown Area School District encompasses approximately 106 square miles, serving a mix of rural communities across four municipalities. The district educates approximately 950 students in one elementary center and one middle/high school. The transportation department maintains a fleet of 14 buses, providing daily student transportation, including regular education, special education, and extracurricular routes. The district prides itself on maintaining a close-knit, student-focused environment with strong community support.

Position Overview

The Director of Transportation is responsible for:

• Supervising all transportation department personnel.
• Coordinating routing, scheduling, and bus stop assignments.
• Overseeing vehicle maintenance and safety inspections.
• Ensuring compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations.
• Managing the transportation budget and related procurement.
• Serving as a liaison to parents, staff, and local municipalities.
• Communicating transportation updates clearly and professionally.
• Driving school vehicles when necessary to maintain service coverage.

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma required (preference given to advanced certifications or degrees).
• CDL with passenger, school bus, and air brake endorsements (or willingness to obtain).
• Pennsylvania School Bus Instructor certification (or willingness to obtain).
• Strong understanding of transportation logistics and vehicle operations.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Knowledge of Pennsylvania laws governing school transportation.
• Experience in transportation management preferred.

Additional Details

• This is a full-time, contracted administrative position.
• Salary and benefits will be outlined in the employment contract.

Description

This is a full-time position at the middle/high school level. The successful candidate will support student learning in physical science through the implementation of standards-aligned curriculum, hands-on laboratory experiences, and inquiry-based instructional practices.

The ideal candidate will foster student curiosity and critical thinking through engaging lessons aligned with Pennsylvania’s STEELS Standards, while collaborating with colleagues, support staff, and families to promote academic achievement and personal growth.

• Plan and deliver effective instruction aligned with PA STEELS Standards in Physics and Chemistry, grades 7–12
• Design and facilitate laboratory investigations and inquiry-based learning experiences
• Create a classroom environment that promotes scientific reasoning, collaboration, and problem-solving
• Use formative and summative assessment data to guide instruction and measure student progress
• Analyze student performance data to inform instructional decisions and support academic growth

Qualifications:

• Must possess a valid Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) certification in Physics 7–12 and/or Chemistry 7–12
• Multiple certifications preferred
• Experience teaching Physics and/or Chemistry at the secondary level preferred
• Must possess valid clearances

Paraprofessional

The Burgettstown Area School District is accepting applications for a Special Education Paraprofessional. This is a 185 Day/school year position which supports students with special needs in instructional and non-instructional settings. Candidates must demonstrate patience, flexibility, and the ability to work collaboratively with teachers and staff to promote student success. Prior experience working with children is preferred. School Bus Driver

The Burgettstown Area School District is seeking a dependable and safety-conscious School Bus Driver to join our transportation team. This is a vital role responsible for ensuring the safe and timely transport of students to and from school and school-related activities.

Position Type: Part-Time, Split Shift
Location: Burgettstown, PA
Start Date: As soon as possible

Key Responsibilities:

• Operate a school bus on a designated route and schedule

• Ensure the safety of all passengers during transport

• Perform daily vehicle safety inspections and maintain cleanliness

• Follow all traffic laws, district policies, and state regulations

• Report any incidents, disciplinary issues, or mechanical concerns promptly

Minimum Qualifications:

• Valid Pennsylvania CDL with S and P endorsements (or willingness to obtain)

• Clean driving record and background check

• High school diploma or equivalent

• Ability to pass a physical exam and drug screening

• Patience, reliability, and strong interpersonal skills

• Must possess current clearances, including Act 34 (Criminal History), Act 151 (Child Abuse), and FBI Fingerprint Clearance

Preferred Qualifications:

• Prior school bus driving experience

• Familiarity with the local area and school district

Substitute bus drivers are needed to transport students to and from school. Drivers with a CDL with S endorsement are desired. Must have clean driving record. Must be 21 years of age or older.
