Director of Transportation (Full-Time Contracted Position)
The Burgettstown Area School District is accepting applications for a full-time Director of Transportation. This contracted administrative position provides leadership and oversight for the daily operation of a safe, efficient, and DOT compliant transportation program that supports the district’s educational mission.
About the District:
The Burgettstown Area School District encompasses approximately 106 square miles, serving a mix of rural communities across four municipalities. The district educates approximately 950 students in one elementary center and one middle/high school. The transportation department maintains a fleet of 14 buses, providing daily student transportation, including regular education, special education, and extracurricular routes. The district prides itself on maintaining a close-knit, student-focused environment with strong community support.
Position Overview
The Director of Transportation is responsible for:
- Supervising all transportation department personnel.
- Coordinating routing, scheduling, and bus stop assignments.
- Overseeing vehicle maintenance and safety inspections.
- Ensuring compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations.
- Managing the transportation budget and related procurement.
- Serving as a liaison to parents, staff, and local municipalities.
- Communicating transportation updates clearly and professionally.
- Driving school vehicles when necessary to maintain service coverage.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma required (preference given to advanced certifications or degrees).
- CDL with passenger, school bus, and air brake endorsements (or willingness to obtain).
- Pennsylvania School Bus Instructor certification (or willingness to obtain).
- Strong understanding of transportation logistics and vehicle operations.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of Pennsylvania laws governing school transportation.
- Experience in transportation management preferred.

Supervisor of Special Education
The Burgettstown Area School District seeks a qualified candidate to serve as its next Supervisor of Special Education. Located in close proximity to Pittsburgh, the BASD has a special education population of approximately 22% of its total enrollment. Available in September, 2025, this 12 month Act 93 position is responsible for promoting best practices in Special Education within a K-12 setting. The ideal candidate will have an extensive knowledge base and experience with writing, reviewing, and implementing all facets of Individual Education Plans across K-12. Previous supervisory experience is preferred. SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHER (Search Ongoing)
Description
The Burgettstown Area School District is seeking a dedicated and passionate Special Education Teacher to join our team. This is a full-time position. The successful candidate will provide individualized instruction and support to students with diverse learning needs, ensuring that all students have the opportunity to succeed academically, socially, and emotionally. The teacher will work closely with students, parents, teachers, and support staff to develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) tailored to meet the unique needs of each student.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement IEPs that address the individual needs of students receiving emotional support and learning support services.
- Provide direct instruction and support in small group and one-on-one settings.
- Monitor student progress and adjust instructional strategies as needed.
- Collaborate with general education teachers, support staff, and parents to create an inclusive learning environment.
- Implement positive behavior support strategies to promote a productive and supportive classroom atmosphere.
- Maintain accurate records and ensure compliance with state and federal special education regulations.
Qualifications:
- Must possess a valid Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) certification in Special Education (PK-12 or equivalent).
- Experience working with students with emotional and learning disabilities preferred.
- Candidates with multiple certifications encouraged to apply.
Preferred Skills:
· Experience working with students in Emotional Support and Learning Support settings.
· Proficiency in developing and implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
· Knowledge of positive behavior intervention strategies and de-escalation techniques.
· Familiarity with progress monitoring tools and data-driven decision-making.
· Strong understanding of special education laws and compliance requirements (IDEA, Section 504, etc.)

In addition to a starting salary of $46,449.00 for first year Bachelor's (salary is greater depending upon degree(s) earned and years of service in Pennsylvania) and a 186 day work year, all teachers are eligible for comprehensive medical coverage for themselves and their families with a very reasonable premium share (as low as $51.02/month for individual coverage), may participate in a flexible spending account, are issued a laptop computer and an Ipad, and may receive tuition reimbursement for advanced study.

The Burgettstown Area School District is seeking a dependable and safety-conscious School Bus Driver to join our transportation team. This is a vital role responsible for ensuring the safe and timely transport of students to and from school and school-related activities.
Position Type: Part-Time, Split Shift

Key Responsibilities:

Operate a school bus on a designated route and schedule

Inspector Mechanic
Full-time, 12 month, salaried position. Minimum Requirements: High school diploma, one (1) year experience as diesel mechanic or a certificate from an approved post-secondary school, Class 7 Certification for inspection of school buses and maintenance vehicles. Must have/be willing to acquire a valid PA Commercial Driver's License (CDL) and school bus and passenger endorsement.
