    Congrats to Luke Clements, Brandon Lounder, and Dante Marcucci on their victory last Saturday on Hometown High Q.  The team has advanced the semi-finals, which will be filmed on April 22nd.  Last week's performance will air on May 6th.  Great work!

  • PJAS Regional Competition

    Great work by our eight winners!

     

    Burgettstown’s PJAS students competed in the regional competition over the weekend at California University. Our students worked very hard on their projects and were extremely successful at the competition. 
     

    Seven of our students took home first place awards for their projects.
    -Madeline Newark (7th Grade)- "Which Kind of Water Makes Plants Grow Taller?"
    -Turner Lehman (8th Grade)- "Bridge Bonanza"
    -Miranda Schramm (8th Grade)- "Penetrating Oil Performance Comparison"
    -Ashley Cunningham (10th grade)- "Growing Crystals"
    -Desiree Bouch (10th Grade)- "Electrophoresis"
    -Madison Tournay (10th Grade)- "Cupcake Chemistry"
    -Tenth grader Erin Smith received a first place award, perfect score award, and exemplary award in high school Biochemistry for her project, "The Squish Factor", testing the stress and strain loads of viscoelastic hydrogels synthesizing bodily tissues.
     
     
     
    Seventh grader, Virginia Lohn received a second place award for her project "What is the Best Paper Towel Brand?"
     
     
     
    Great work by everyone and thanks to Mr. Tropeck and Mrs. Ward for assisting the students.  Good luck in the state competition in May!

  • Pennsylvania Parks and Forests Foundation Winners

    Congrats to Virginia, Lexus, and Ricky on their winning designs.

     

    Congratulations to Virginia Lohn, Lexus Green, and Ricky Bernola for having their artwork selected as winners by the Pennsylvania Parks and Forest Foundation during their Anti-Graffiti poster contest.  Virginia received the first place award, Lexus received the third place award, and Ricky received an honorable mention.  All three will have their posters displayed at the State Capitol Building for the month of February.  Great job!

  • Hometown High Q Advances to Second Round

    Congrats on your first round victory!

     

    Congratulations to Dante Marcucci, Luke Clements, and Brandon Lounder on their first round victory over Mars and Mohawk.  The team's second round match will be filmed in March against teams to be determined at a later date.  Great work in the first round and good luck in the second round!

    Congratulations to the Physics Club and the All-Conference Football Players on being recognized for their achievments at the January 9th school board meeting.  Thanks to Mr. Druga and Mr. Kovscek for presenting each group to the board.  Great work everyone!

  • Mrs. Annette Dashofy

    On November 22nd, we had an exciting day at the Middle/High School.  Mrs. Annette Dashofy, a Burgettstown graduate and New York Times best selling author, met with all students.  Mrs. Dashofy spoke about her experiences and how her novels have a local connection.  Mrs. Dashofy and Mrs. Marler also conducted a writing workshop with approximately 40 students.  Thank you Mrs. Dashofy.

  • Genius Hours

    On November 22nd, our seventh grade students participated in our first "Genius Hour" activities.  The seventh grade teachers developed the following stations; a Maker activity, a "Break Out" activity, a math mystery, and the history of the Mayflower.  Our students were engaged and actively learning.  Students and staff did an excellent job and we look forward to trying new things in the future.

    Luke Clements, Brandon Lounder, and Dante Marcucci competed against Mars and Mohawk on the Hometown High Q last Saturday.  The show will air on January 21st at 11am.  Please view the show on KDKA to see how our students did in the first round.

    Students in our Honors Physics class launched their rockets for the first time.  It was a successful launch and they took notes on how to improve things for their next launch.  It is great to see our students applying their engineering skills!

  • Day of the Dead Activities

    Last week in Senora Cadarette's Spanish classes, our students learned about various items on the Day of the Dead.  The students enjoyed the activities and the class celebration.
