Letter to Parents/Guardians
Dear Students and Parents/Guardians:
It is my pleasure to be working with you and your child, and I look forward to a very rewarding year. To that end, I have outlined and attached my Teacher Creed and Classroom Plan for you, so that you will know what my expectations will be throughout the school year. Included with the consequences for inappropriate behaviors, I have included the positive rewards that I will be using as well because I believe that rewards are as important, if not more important, as consequences. Students need to know that their efforts don’t go unnoticed, for so often it’s the well-behaved students who receive no extrinsic rewards. Too often, attention is focused on students who behave inappropriately, and I intend to redirect that focus. However, since many adolescents like attention, I hope to provide all students with POSITIVE attention; thus, we ALL get our needs met!
It is my intention to speak with all parents/guardians at least once before the school year gets into full swing in order to get to know you a little better and to allow you to get to know me as well. I have found that with parental involvement and cooperation, I don’t “lose” students. I also like to call from time to time with positive reports, so if you get a phone call from me, don’t assume the worst! Although I am not one to anticipate problems with students, there still may be a need to get in touch with you for matters of concern. For all of these reasons, I am requesting that you fill out the contact information below and return it to me.
Again, thank you for the opportunity to educate your child and for your cooperation in ensuring that he/she has a successful year. If you ever have any concerns that you’d like to discuss with me, I can be reached at 724-947-8100 or at email@example.com.
