Degrees and Certifications:

Mr. Robert Hughes

Hello Families,

I am Mr. Hughes and I will be your child's Math/Science teacher this school year. Thank you for taking the time to learn about me.

Background: I hold a duel degree in Elementary and Special Education from Slippery Rock University. I have spent my entire teaching career here at Burgettstown. This school year will be my 22nd year with the district. Along with being a 4th grade teacher, I am also the 4th grade, grade level rep, elementary math department chair, 4th grade CHAMPS representative, and Rube Goldberg team manager.

Teaching Philosophy: Every classroom is unique; my role as the teacher will be to assist each child in developing their potential and learning styles. I will present a curriculum that will incorporate different learning styles, as well as make the content relevant to the students. Hands-on learning, cooperative learning, and individual work that engage will be used to activate student learning.

Interests: Outside the classroom, I enjoy spending time with my family. I have two children, Addison 13 and Cole 11. They are both very active and keep me busy. Between competitive gymnastics, basketball, and soccer we are always somewhere. I try to make as many events as my students are in when I can. Please share any schedules with me. As for my personal interests, I enjoy golfing and watching basketball.

Communication: Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions or concerns. The easiest way to reach me is through email at or through the class Dojo app. I can also be reached at school by phone at 724-947-8150 ext. 3215

Expectations: I have high expectations for my students. My expectations for them are what I have/hold my own children to. Together, this year we can help your child achieve their goals.

I am genuinely excited about the upcoming school year and the opportunity to get to work with/get to know each student.
