Burgettstown Area School District

    Dual Enrollment Program

    For Students in Grades 11 & 12

Burgettstown Area School District will accept both on-campus and online college dual enrollment courses for high school credit.  Students will have the opportunity to earn both high school units (2 per course) and college credits (3 to 4 per course) through the program.  To enter the Dual Enrollment Program, students must meet the following eligibility requirements:

    1. The student must be a high school junior or senior.

    2. The student must be making satisfactory progress towards fulfilling graduation requirements as determined by the Guidance Office. **or by a non-public, cyber/charter or home school program**

    3. The student must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.75.

    4. The student must demonstrate readiness for college-level coursework in the intended subject area of study, as determined by the district and/or the college/university involved.  Placement exams may be required for course enrollment.

    5. Students who do not meet the criteria listed in A-D may be permitted to enroll in dual enrollment courses if approval is received from both the school district and the individual college/university.

    6. In order to remain in the program, the student must maintain a grade point average of 2.75 in the high school and a 2.0 (“C” average) in each dual enrollment course.

    7. The student must have and maintain satisfactory attendance and citizenship as determined by the district and the college/university student policies.

Courses offered in the college/university setting are subject to the application/enrollment requirements of the college/university.  Each course completed in a college/university setting equals 2 units of Burgettstown graduation credit.  Beginning with the Class of 2022, dual enrollment courses will not count towards a student's GPA or class rank.  Generally, the course must be academic (English, math, history, or science departments) and not be an elective course.

The tuition, fees, and book charges (where applicable) must be paid by the student/family at the time of course enrollment.  All courses must be approved by the Guidance Office and the Principal prior to registration. Questions regarding registering for dual enrollment courses should be directed to Mrs. Riley and the college’s admissions office.

All students interested in Dual Enrollment courses are strongly encouraged to contact the admissions office of each college they will be applying to in order to determine if the dual enrollment credits will be accepted for transfer to the college each student enrolls in after high school graduation.

Burgettstown students have taken dual enrollment courses recently at the following colleges: Pitt, Penn State Beaver, WVU, Franciscan University of Steubenville, Clarion University, California University of Pennsylvania, WVNCC, CCAC, CCBC, Pittsburgh Technical College, etc.  Once enrolled in a course, a copy of the registration form must be turned in to the Guidance Office.  Upon completion of the course, a copy of the grade transcript must be turned in to the Guidance Office.  You will not receive high school credit for the course until you turn all of these materials in.

Please call or see Mrs. Riley in the Guidance Office with any questions at 724-947-8119 or hriley@burgettstown.k12.pa.us.
