Six Word Memoirs are stories that we can tell using simply six words. As an English teacher, I spent a great deal of time asking students to elaborate, add more detail, and explain their ideas more fully. This activity turns that energy around and forces the writer to choose every word with great care because they only get to use six. This can be just as challenging as elaborating, and it is a great way to teach word choice and the power of words. You can use Six Word Memoirs as a quick formative assessment or layer it with images or compile it into a video for a larger project.
