• AATG National German Exam

The AATG, or American Association of Teachers of German, is an organization of over 4,000 teachers in all 50 states of the US, grouped into 60 local chapters. The Burgettstown Area School District is in the Western Pennsylvania chapter, which now also includes parts of Ohio and West Virginia.
Each year the AATG host the National German Exam, in which over 20,000 students of German enrolled in levels 2 - 4 of are tested on their language abilities. Students who score in the top 10% of each local chapter go on to a final round in which they must complete many tasks, including writing a letter in German to their potential host family and participate in an oral interview with an AATG chapter testing chairperson. From these finalists, a single winner is declared in each local chapter.
The AATG then awards study trips to many of the chapter winners. Each Trip winner receives a free month long summer trip to live with a family in Germany and attend a German school. It is a a very exciting and prestigious prize, and very competitive, since Burgettstown students are competing with other German students throughout the Western Pennsylvania area, including Shadyside Academy, Upper St Clair, Fox Chapel, Sewickley Academy, and other schools.
The National German Exam has been given at Burgettstown since 2005, and in that time, our students have won trips to Germany in FIVE different years. This is an amazing accomplishment for our students, unmatched by any other school in the Chapter, and has definitely put Burgettstown on the map as the school to watch in German language studies!

Way to go Blue Devils! Congratulations!
